Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
The Element has an anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control during hard braking. The Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system balances the front/rear braking forces during dynamic loading.
Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
The Element enhances its visibility to others by incorporating Daytime Running Lights (DRL) up front.
Dual-Stage, Dual-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS)
A dual-stage inflator allows the front airbags to inflate at two different rates, depending on crash severity.
Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback and is designed to help protect a child or a small-statured adult by deactivating the side airbag if the passenger leans into the airbag deployment path.
Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH)
All 2009 Element models are equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) for passengers in the second row. The LATCH system provides two lower anchors and an upper tether anchor. When used with a compatible child seat, the LATCH system provides attachment points between the child seat and the vehicle seat.
Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System
Front 3-point seat belts with an automatic tensioning system ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor
The Element provides standard side curtain airbags. In addition to the protection they offer outboard occupants in the event of a side impact, these side curtain airbags are also connected to a rollover sensor to help provide protection in a rollover.

*Airbags inflated for display purposes.
Side-Impact Door Beams
The side-impact door beams help provide optimal structural protection in a side impact.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
This system monitors the pressure in all four tires, and alerts the driver before pressure loss in any tire becomes significantly low.*

*For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely on the monitor system. See your local Honda dealer for details.
Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control
This sophisticated safety system aids the driver in retaining control of the vehicle if side slippage is detected during oversteer or understeer conditions. When the driver is cornering or must make a sudden maneuver and traction loss is detected, the system will engage to help restore the driver's intended course.
