So many of the same qualities that make Honda Civics such a blast to drive also give them a reputation for being very protective. The rigid Civic body provides a protective safety cage around its occupants. Another handling/safety blending is the standard anti-lock braking system (ABS), which enhances your steering control during hard braking, helping you to avoid a collision by steering around it. All this has helped earn it a top crash-test rating—five stars—in NHTSA frontal-impact tests.*

SAFETY FEATURES

In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual stage front airbags inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent serious head and upper-body injuries.
The front crush zone, dual front airbags (SRS)* and 3-point seat belts help provide driver and passenger protection in moderate-to-severe full-frontal and offset-frontal impacts. The steel door beams help provide protection in a side impact, while the rear crush zone helps protect in a rear impact.
Civic's anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard (EX).
Civic Hybrid models feature a standard front side airbag system with an Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). The system uses special sensors in the passenger's seatback that determine if a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the side airbag deployment path, in which case the airbag will not deploy.
The front and rear crush zones help provide driver and passenger protection in moderate-to-severe full-frontal and offset-frontal impacts.
For an integrated appearance, the Civic has body-colored bumpers, installed with a minimal-gap technique that smoothes the transition between body and bumper.
The solid-cell design and central placement of the nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack help protect it.
The dual side-impact door beams help provide protection in a side impact.
All five seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts. The rear seat features the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) mounting system for use with compatible child seats.
