Ahh... Fresh Air.
Open the Element's side cargo doors and you'll have nothing but wide-open space.
That's because the Element was designed without conventional B-pillars. But there's really nothing to fear, because when the doors are closed, strong vertical beams are formed as the Element's reinforced frame, side sills and roof unite, providing you with a safe and secure passenger compartment.
Inside, more conventional safety features such as dual-stage front airbags (SRS) and 3-point seat belts help keep everyone safe and secure. The back seats are equipped with the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system for extra child-seat stability. All of which explains why the Element received the highest frontal-impact crash test rating from the NHTSA.

In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag (available on EX) inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Plus, Honda's Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.
Along with its strong and rigid body structure, important safety features inside the Element help contribute to its occupant protection. Child-seat restraint is provided in the rear seats by the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system, which allows LATCH-compatible child-safety seats to be easily and securely installed.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual-stage front airbags inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent serious head and upper-body injuries.
Front and rear 3-point seat belts ride across the lap and chest and help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
Another Element feature is ABS, an anti-lock braking system (EX) which helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard.
