Honda has combined its vast engine-manufacturing resources and advanced racing technology to create a minivan that is nothing less than ingenious. The Odyssey's enhanced 3.5-liter, 24-valve, VTEC® V-6 engine boosts its output to 240 horsepower while also meeting stringent Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards.

And no major tune-ups are required for the first 105,000 miles.* A highly sophisticated 5-speed automatic transmission puts that power to use. Its advanced Grade Logic Control avoids gear hunting on uphill and descents, and it downshifts for added engine braking. Four-wheel disc brakes provide stopping power, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps you retain steering control, even under severe braking.

ENGINEERING FEATURES

An AM/FM/cassette audio system with four speakers is standard on the LX, while the EX replaces the cassette feature with a CD player and adds two more speakers for a total of six. Both systems deliver clear, high-quality sound and blend smoothly with the interior. As with all Hondas, the controls are intuitive and easy to operate with a precise feel. On the EX model, an additional set of audio controls is conveniently mounted on the steering wheel.
The Odyssey is among the industry's only minivans with four-wheel independent suspension, which is a major factor in its car-like ride. It is also the only minivan with rear double wishbone suspension. At the front, a low-friction, broad-based MacPherson strut suspension with long-travel springs and dampers provides the supple, well-controlled ride and handling. At the rear, the compact multi-link double wishbone suspension delivers numerous benefits. This version of double wishbone suspension was made more compact to provide greater cargo and passenger area.
All models are fitted with premium P225/60 R16 98T All-Season tires mounted on 16-inch wheels. Exclusive aluminum-alloy wheels are standard on EX models. A Honda-developed, anti-corrosion treatment was applied to maintain their clean, sporty appearance for many years of use in all weather conditions.
The LX features dual sliding doors, while the EX model comes standard with dual power sliding doors. Doors on the EX can be opened and closed by switches on the instrument panel, by the remote entry system (from up to 50 feet away), or by the door handles. Features in the Odyssey's door system include an auto-reverse function (EX), useful if the door(s) should encounter significant resistance from a person or object. Also featured is a safety interlock mechanism that disables the left side door when refueling, and provides power disablement to both doors (EX) while driving.
A 240-hp, 3.5-liter, 24-valve aluminum-alloy VTEC® (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) V-6 engine is standard. Because this engine has to power a large minivan, the Honda design team specified unique operating characteristics, specifically, strong off-the-line torque.
The driver's seat on the EX model comes standard with an eight-way power adjustment. The LX model features manual height adjustment for the driver's seat.
Front and rear air conditioning is standard on both models. EX models include an automatic climate-control system that maintains a preselected interior temperature regardless of outside conditions. The air-conditioning system uses two heater cores and two air-conditioning evaporators, one for each compartment, front and rear. Both front and rear systems can be controlled by the driver, but control of the rear system can be switched over to a control panel in the second row.
The third-row bench seat is completely retractable into the floor. Honda's engineers designed the hinge mechanism of this seat so that it lies completely flat, allowing cargo to be stacked more easily. When the seat is retracted into its storage well, the removable side cargo net can be used to hold the head restraints. When the seat is up, the storage well acts as a convenient place to carry cargo such as shopping bags or athletic equipment. There is 38.1 cubic feet of cargo area behind the rear seat.
The available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™* is so remarkable, its 4.6-GB DVD database contains information that can help lead you to gas stations, restaurants, airports, hotels and ATMs. It can also direct you to a specific business or residential address.

*The factory-installed Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System is only available on Odyssey EX with Leather.
TCS, Honda's advanced Traction Control System, enhances traction and stability on slippery surfaces by automatically limiting excessive wheelspin when accelerating.
The 3.5-liter V-6 engine owes much of its smooth power delivery and broad torque curve to its four-valve combustion chambers and VTEC® (variable valve timing and lift electronic control). Incoming fuel and air are mixed thoroughly as they swirl through a single opening, resulting in clean, complete combustion, enhanced efficiency and optimum torque output. As engine rpm rises, both intake valves open in order to satisfy the engine's increased demand for fuel and air.
The 2004 Odyssey's advanced rear double wishbone suspension offers an ideal balance between ride comfort and handling.
