Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) (all V-6 except 6MT)
On Accord Coupe V-6 models with automatic transmission, the V-6 engine features Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology. This system can activate and deactivate the engine’s cylinders as needed to meet the demands of both acceleration and fuel savings. When maximum torque is required, all six cylinders are firing. During steady cruising speeds, VCM shuts down one bank of cylinders. In this mode, the audio system’s Active Noise Cancellation™ (ANC) function generates out-of-phase sound waves to cancel out any undesirable noise that may be due to the harmonics of 3-cylinder operation. As cruising speed increases the engine moves to a 4-cylinder mode for extra cruising power. To help keep engine vibration from reaching the cabin in every mode, engine mounts automatically adjust their firmness to help absorb energy. The transition between the three operating modes is completely seamless and goes unnoticed by the Accord’s passengers. As shown on the Accord Sedan.
5-Speed Automatic Transmission
The 5-speed automatic transmission uses the engine's broad torque curve for brisk acceleration, optimal fuel economy and smooth shifting.
Grade Logic Control
The Accord automatic transmission features Honda's Grade Logic Control system. This system can detect vehicle driving situations and then set appropriate shift points for the car. It also avoids gear hunting on climbs and descents, and downshifts when appropriate for added engine braking.
Close-Ratio 6-Speed Manual Transmission
The Accord EX-L V-6 6-speed Coupe offers the sporting driver quick, precise gear control with the short-throw shifter. The clutch mechanism on the 6-speed transmission is designed to eliminate abrupt engagement and clutch-grab, resulting in smoother shifts.
Double Wishbone Front Suspension
The double wishbone front suspension uses both lower and upper control links. This allows Honda engineers the flexibility to tune the suspension for predictable cornering feel and emergency maneuvering, to ensure a smooth and stable ride.
Multi-Link Rear Suspension
The multi-link rear suspension uses a compact, in-wheel design. Its high lateral rigidity enhances the Accord’s agility.
Drive-by-Wire™ Throttle System
Instead of a mechanical linkage from the accelerator to the fuel-injection throttle, the Accord Coupe uses Drive-by-Wire technology. The system uses an electronic position sensor connected to the accelerator pedal that sends an electronic signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Maintenance Minder
The Maintenance Minder tracks services on a mileage basis such as the miles between changes to the air filter, spark plugs, coolant and tire rotation. In addition, engine sensors detect driving conditions to recommend when an oil change is recommended and send that information to the Maintenance Minder.
