Every 2005 CR-V model is equipped with front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor. Dual stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS), anti-lock braking System (ABS) and the remarkable Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) system that's designed to help control skidding are also standard on every CR-V.

All of this is on top of the exceptional strength and rigidity of the CR-V's body structure, which helps to explain this vehicle's impressive performance in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's rigorous frontal- and side-impact crash-testing. The current CR-V design has achieved a 5-star crash-test rating—the best possible.*

*Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). CR-V was tested with standard side-impact air bags (SABs) in May 2002.
SAFETY FEATURES

CR-V's anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard. The Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the front/rear braking forces.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent head and upper-body injuries.
The front and rear crush zones provide driver and passenger protection in moderate-to-severe full-frontal and offset-frontal impacts.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Plus the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.
All five seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts. The rear seat features the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) mounting system for use with compatible child seats.
The chassis of the CR-V utilizes unit-body construction with extensive cross-bracing and stiffening members incorporated into key areas. This improves strength and durability during light off-highway driving conditions, and reduces road noise and vibration in conventional driving situations.
Front and rear 3-point seat belts with an automatic tensioning system ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
The side curtain airbag module is positioned along the side of the headliner. In the event of a sufficient side impact, this system will activate to help provide protection for both front and rear passengers. A new type of inflator provides an exceptionally quick inflation time. The rollover sensor detects an impending rollover and deploys both sets of curtain airbags.
The dual side-impact door beams help provide protection in a side impact.
This sophisticated safety device aids the driver in retaining control of the vehicle if side slippage is detected. When the driver is cornering or must make a sudden maneuver, the system may engage if traction loss is detected.
The system immobilizes the engine's fuel injection and ignition, and only a matching digital code in the ignition key can override it. When the driver puts the key into the ignition switch, the switch transmits a signal that reads the code in the key. If the key code agrees with the code in the powertrain control module (PCM), the engine starts.
