The Honda Odyssey is the embodiment of peace of mind. An array of standard safety features stands ready on all trims to protect you and your family wherever you roam. These include the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), front 3-point seat belts with pretensioners, and the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system for easy installation of compatible child seats. Also standard are front airbags,* front side airbags and 3-row side curtain airbags with rollover sensor. The dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) deploy at one of two rates and thresholds, depending on the severity of impact and seat-belt use. Sensors prevent the deployment of the passenger’s side airbag if a child or small-statured adult is in the airbag’s deployment path. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure incorporates a front-end frame structure that absorbs and disperses crash energy over a large area. ACE increases Odyssey passenger protection, and makes it more crash-compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights. The ACE body structure incorporates a front-end frame structure that absorbs and disperses crash energy over a large area. ACE increases Odyssey passenger protection, and makes it more crash-compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe frontal impact, the dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) inflate and deflate in a fraction of a second, and are designed to help prevent head and upper-body injuries.
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the front side airbags inflate to help protect the driver's and front passenger's upper body. Plus the Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.
All seats are equipped with 3-point seat belts. Three of the rear seats feature the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) mounting system for use with compatible child seats.
Front 3-point seat belts with an automatic tensioning system ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.
The side curtain airbag module is positioned along the side of the headliner. In the event of a sufficient side impact or rollover, this system will activate to help provide protection for front and rear outboard occupants.
The system immobilizes the engine's fuel injection and ignition, and only a matching digital code in the ignition key can override it. When the driver puts the key into the ignition switch, the switch transmits a signal that reads the code in the key. If the key code agrees with the code in the powertrain control module (PCM), the engine starts.
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control during hard braking. The Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system balances the front/rear braking forces during dynamic loading.
Working with ABS and the Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system, VSA enhances stability by detecting oversteer or understeer, and by then braking individual wheels and/or reducing throttle to help restore the driver’s intended path of travel.
With the Michelin PAX System on the Odyssey Touring, you can still travel on a punctured tire at 50 mph up to 125 miles. Its specially designed larger wheels contain a flexible support ring and low-profile tires that even enhance handling. This feature works with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which monitors the pressure in all four tires and alerts the driver before pressure loss in any tire becomes critically low. Part of the braking system, EBD is a more exacting method of ensuring that proportionate braking forces are applied to the brakes. In order to avoid needless ABS cycling during a non-emergency stop, EBD uses the ABS sensors to detect impending rear-wheel lockup. Then it signals an additional ABS solenoid to reduce braking force to the rear and add more to the front.
