Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure
The ACE body structure—Honda’s signature achievement in crash-energy management—incorporates a front-end frame structure that absorbs and disperses frontal crash energy over a large area. ACE increases the Pilot’s passenger protection, and is more crash-compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)
Pilot’s anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard. The Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the front/rear braking forces during dynamic loading.
Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)
In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver’s or front passenger’s upper body. Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passengers seatback and is designed to help protect a child or a small-statured adult by deactivating the side airbag if the passenger leans into the airbag deployment path.

Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH)
All 2009 Pilot models are equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) in all three second-row seating positions and in the right-side third-row seat. The LATCH system provides two lower anchors and an upper tether anchor. When used with a compatible child seat, the LATCH system provides attachment points between the child seat and the vehicle seat.
Rigid Steel Body
The chassis of the Pilot utilizes unit-body construction with extensive cross-bracing and stiffening members incorporated into key areas. This improves strength and durability during light off-highway driving conditions, reduces road noise and vibration in conventional driving situations and is also ideal for helping to achieve balanced and predictable handling.
Three-Row Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor
Pilot provides standard side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats. In addition to the protection they offer outboard occupants in the event of a side impact, these side curtain airbags are fitted with a rollover sensor to help provide protection in a rollover. Most side curtain airbags in this class are designed to provide side-impact protection, but rarely do they also provide protection in the event of a rollover.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
This system monitors the pressure in all four tires, alerts the driver if pressure loss in any tire becomes significantly low and even indicates exactly which tire has low pressure. The Touring model also features location and tire pressure in the Multi-Information Display.*

*For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely on the monitor system. See your local Honda dealer for details.
Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA ®) with Traction Control
This sophisticated safety system aids the driver in retaining control of the vehicle if side slippage is detected during understeer or oversteer conditions. When the driver is cornering or must make a sudden maneuver, the system will engage if traction loss is detected to help restore the driver’s intended course.
