Every Pilot is powered by a 250-hp, 3.5-liter, aluminum alloy, SOHC, 24-valve i-VTEC® engine featuring Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) system.
5-Speed Automatic Transmission with Grade Logic Control
This transmission uses the engine's broad torque curve for brisk acceleration, optimal fuel economy[1] and smooth-shifting characteristics. Grade Logic Control improves efficiency under a wide variety of driving conditions, such as uphill/downhill and city-traffic driving. It "knows" when the Pilot is on a hill and automatically holds the engine in a lower gear for better climbing power and increased engine braking when going downhill. This decreases annoying "gear hunting" that can often occur with other automatic transmissions in these situations.

4-Wheel Independent Suspension
The Pilot's excellent handling prowess is a powerful selling feature. The Pilot's rigid unit-body structure provides great performance in both bending and torsional rigidity. The fully independent suspension delivers remarkable precision. And the Pilot has well-built brakes, wheels and tires as well.
Hill Start Assist
Hill Start Assist helps prevent the Pilot from rolling forward or backward when stopped on a steep grade. Activated by sensors when the driver's foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator, Hill Start Assist will maintain brake-line pressure for a brief moment when the brake pedal is released, giving the driver time to push the accelerator and resume motion.
Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®)
Powered by the intelligence of i-VTEC® technology, VCM® works on the principle that a vehicle only requires a fraction of its power output at cruising speeds. The system electronically deactivates cylinders to reduce fuel consumption[1]. The VCM® engine is able to run on 3, 4 or 6 cylinders based on the power requirement. So you get the best of both worlds: V-6 power when accelerating or climbing, as well as the efficiency of a smaller engine when cruising.

Variable Torque Management® 4-Wheel Drive System (VTM-4®)
The Pilot's VTM-4® system operates automatically. But when you need to start off in extreme low-traction conditions such as when stopped in mud, on ice or in loose gravel, the thoughtful VTM-4 Lock® feature lets you manually lock the rear differential to help get you moving. And it can stay manually locked up to 18 mph.
