Heavy is bad. Light is good. It’s a simple idea, but it takes sophisticated thinking to make it a reality. The 2.2-liter, torque-rich engine in the S2000 produces blistering power that belies its displacement. Its components and systems have been carefully honed with ultra-lightweight materials to meet exacting tolerances. An impressive 237 hp at 7800 rpm and 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 6800 rpm means you get an advanced lesson in acceleration. Now factor in performance-oriented gearing, and the S2000 driver is treated to a mega-dose of high-revving adrenaline.



ENGINEERING FEATURES

Working in cooperation with Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), the Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system replaces a conventional throttle arrangement with an all-electronic system that senses the throttle pedal position and relays that information to a computer. The computer then performs the actual throttle activation instantaneously.
Honda engineers designed a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission for the S2000. Slick, tough, carbon synchronizers smooth the way, and the overall gear ratios have been chosen for strong acceleration in lower gears.
The S2000 features a power-operated soft top with a glass rear window equipped with a defroster. Pushing a switch on the center console opens or closes the top in about six seconds. When raised, latches at the top of the windshield hold it securely. When folded, the top stows compactly behind the cockpit. A standard molded cover snaps in place to protect the retracted top.
The 4-wheel double wishbone suspension system used on the S2000 contributes greatly to its exceptional handling. The system consists of upper and lower wishbone arms at each wheel, with calibrated coil-over spring/damper units and anti-roll bars.
