Our hybrid technology has blossomed since we introduced the first gas-electric hybrid to the U.S. market in 1999. Today, the Civic Hybrid is one of the cornerstones of our environmental leadership efforts.

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

Honda’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) provides an outstanding driving experience and allows the engine to always operate at the most efficient rpm level, enabling it to maximize efficiency[1] under all driving conditions.

1.5-liter, SOHC i-VTEC® engine

The 1.5-liter, single overhead camshaft, aluminum-alloy i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine uses state-of-the-art engineering technology to produce impressive power, yet it still helps the Civic Hybrid obtain excellent fuel-economy ratings[1] and an Advanced Technology Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV) rating[2], all on regular gasoline.

Eco Assist

Efficiency or acceleration? It’s your choice. Push the ECON button and your Civic Hybrid automatically adjusts fuel-consuming systems to maximize efficiency[1]. For better performance, press the button again to put the power back into your drive. The speedometer is flanked on each side by coaching bars that change from blue to green, depending on how efficiently you're using your fuel supply. Keep the bars in the green, and you'll go farther on a tankful.

Integrated Motor Assist IMA®

Talk about the perfect blend of power and efficiency. At the heart of the Civic Hybrid is the sophisticated Integrated Motor Assist IMA® system. IMA pairs a 1.5-liter, i-VTEC® 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor. Although the engine alone provides sufficient driving performance, when additional power is required, a permanent-magnet electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission provides power assist. Under certain conditions, the electric motor can propel the car on its own. Together, the motor and engine produce 110 hp @ 5500 rpm (SAE net).
