The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the CR-V a "2013 Top Safety Pick." IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on performance in front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. To earn Top Safety Pick for 2013, a vehicle must have good ratings in four Institute tests.
The 2013 CR-V was named to KBB’s “Best Resale Value: Top 10” list. Depreciation is usually a car buyer's primary expense during ownership. Taking resale value into account can help drivers save money in the long run.

The CR-V took the top spot in the "Cars.com, USA Today and MotorWeek $25k Compact SUV Shootout." Six compact SUVs were tested for three days in the areas of gas mileage, storage, and features and comfort. The CR-V impressed the testers who stated, "It drives like a dream." Adding that the CR-V has, "Great ergonomics and the best interior layout…Parents will love the roomy rear for child seats, low door sill and rear doors that open a full 90 degrees."
For the second consecutive year, Honda has won the Best Retained Value Award for Non-Luxury Brands from Edmunds.com. In addition, the 2012 CR-V was named Best Retained Value in the SUV $25K–$35K category.
