From its side-impact door beams to side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, the Element SC represents an evolving and comprehensive approach to safety. These and other standard safety features helped the Element SC earn 5 stars in NHTSA frontal and side-impact crash safety tests[1], the best possible rating for crash safety.
Tops in Safety
It all adds up to impressive safety performance. For proof, look to the latest findings of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which gave the Element a top rating for its new roof-strength test[2].
In Charge
Standard on every Element is a complement of advanced safety systems to help keep you out of trouble and in command.
Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) helps sense oversteer or understeer in an emergency situation, and then adjusts brake pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver control and keep you on course.
4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), along with
Brake Assist, allow full braking force for authoritative stopping. For better road composure, the
Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), helps balance braking forces and the
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)[3] alerts the driver when a tire’s pressure reaches a significantly low level.
Strong Box
Along with
side-impact door beams and front and rear crush zones, the Element was built with a highly rigid
unit-body construction to lessen intrusion into the passenger cabin. This reinforced body structure is designed to target the highest crash safety ratings for occupant protection.
Expanding Protection
While sharing our roads with many other drivers, a time may arise where collision is unavoidable. For superior defense during impact, Element SC occupants are surrounded by six airbags. The array of coverage includes dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, front side airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and side curtain airbags—all standard.
