From its side-impact door beams to side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, the Element represents a comprehensive approach to safety. These and other standard safety features helped the Element earn 5 stars in NHTSA frontal and side-impact crash safety tests[3], the best possible rating for crash safety.
The Element was named a 2010 TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). According to the IIHS, the award "recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rear, and now [for 2010] rollover crashes."
In Charge
Standard on every Element is a complement of advanced safety systems to keep you out of trouble and in command.
Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) helps sense oversteer or understeer in an emergency situation, and then adjusts brake pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver control and keep you on course.
4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), along with
Brake Assist, allows full braking force for authoritative stopping. And for better road composure, the
Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), helps balance braking forces and the
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver when a tire’s pressure reaches a significantly low level[2].
Strong Box
Along with
side-impact door beams and front and rear crush zones, the Element was built with a highly rigid
unit-body construction to lessen intrusion into the passenger cabin. This reinforced body structure helped the Element achieve a 5-star side-impact crash safety rating[3].
Expanding Protection
While sharing our roads with many other drivers, a time may arise where collision is unavoidable. For superior defense during impact, Element occupants are surrounded by six airbags. The array of coverage includes dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, front side airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and side curtain airbags—all standard.
