The new CR-V e:FCEV will mark North America’s first production vehicle to combine plug-in capability with FCEV technology in one model. This offers the capability to charge the battery to deliver EV driving around town with the flexibility of fast hydrogen refueling for longer trips.
A fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), such as the CR-V e:FCEV, is a long-range EV that uses a fuel cell stack to create electricity on demand. A fuel cell vehicle generates electricity using a process that combines hydrogen and oxygen inside its fuel cell and emits only water.
Plug-in technology uses an electric motor, also used by the fuel cell, with a battery to allow all-electric driving capability. When driven in EV mode, the battery can be recharged from a power outlet or charging station, much like a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV).
There are numerous incentives available for CR-V e:FCEV drivers.
Discover which credits and incentives you may be eligible for. Additionally Honda will provide you with a fuel card for up to $15,000 worth of hydrogen fuel during your three-year lease.*
Exclusive to CR-V Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, every new retail lease includes 21-days of complimentary rentals through Enterprise®.
The advancements in the Honda CR-V e:FCEV are the result of over 20 years of Honda research and development. As America’s best-selling CUV of the past quarter century, the Honda CR-V is an excellent foundation for the CR-V e:FCEV, which delivers top-class cabin space, cargo capacity, and power. The CR-V e:FCEV is also America’s first production plug-in hydrogen fuel cell EV offering multiple different power sources, available only at select dealerships in California.
This next-generation fuel cell module, codeveloped as part of a joint venture with GM, leverages the knowledge, know-how, and economies of scale of both companies and will reduce the cost to one-third compared to the cost of the fuel cell system in the 2019 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell. Honda engineers have optimized the steering and suspension tuning to deliver the same sporty driving experience and class-leading refinement as turbo and hybrid-powered CR-V models.
The driver can customize the driving experience of the CR-V e:FCEV with four selectable drive modes, including EV mode to maximize efficiency and Sport mode to prioritize acceleration and responsiveness.
Hydrogen refueling is just as quick and straightforward as filling a conventional gas-powered car. Refuel in just 5 minutes at a hydrogen station.
Plug into a charging station, or recharge at home, and add up to 29 miles of battery-powered range in just 2.5 hours using a Level 2 charger.
The CR-V e:FCEV is currently available only in California, and eligibility is based on your proximity to one or more approved hydrogen fueling stations in the Northern and Southern California station network through one of our participating dealerships. We recommend that either your home or work ZIP code be within proximity of a participating dealer and hydrogen fueling station(s). Contact your dealer for test drive availability. Find a dealer here.
Owning a CR-V e:FCEV comes with the benefit of significantly reduced maintenance compared to conventional vehicles. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with features like extended brake rotor and pad life, eliminated oil changes, and total reduction in spark plug replacement. Maintenance is taken care of by CR-V e:FCEV dealers and can be easily scheduled using the HondaLink® app. Your owner’s manual provides you with a comprehensive maintenance schedule, and when it’s time for regular maintenance, the Maintenance Minderâ„¢ system will alert you through a visual icon on your instrument panel. Standard maintenance will include services such as checking numerous systems on your car, including fluids, your fuel system, your brake system, and tire pressure.
There are several differences that allow each of the four vehicles to suit various lifestyles and driving uses.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles use a traditional gasoline engine as well as an electric motor with a battery to allow all-electric driving capability. By utilizing this hybrid powertrain, the vehicle can be driven fuel efficiently for long driving distances. When driven in EV mode, it produces zero emissions. The battery can be recharged from a power outlet much like a battery electric vehicle.
A battery electric vehicle (BEV) obtains its power from electricity stored in highly efficient and powerful batteries that require recharging via a power outlet. A BEV also produces no emissions and has range ratings that can vary from 50 to 315 miles, depending on battery capacity. With a Level 2 charger, recharging times can vary from 1 to 10 hours.
Fuel cell vehicles typically have range ratings of over 200 miles and refueling times of approximately 5 minutes along with a highly efficient fuel cell to create on-demand electricity for power with no emissions.
A fuel cell plug-in vehicle combines some of the best features of these vehicles into one.
The 2026 CR-V FCEV combines a U.S.-made fuel cell module along with plug-in charging capability of the battery to deliver EV driving around town with the flexibility of fast hydrogen refueling for longer trips. Available only at select dealerships in California.
Zero. The CR-V e:FCEV is certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as a Zero-Emission Vehicle,* with the only by-product being water vapor, thereby redefining the concept of eco-conscious and fun-to-drive mobility.
The CR-V e:FCEV is thoughtfully designed with bio-synthetic seat upholstery. The CR-V e:FCEV aligns with Honda’s initiative to reduce our environmental impact.
No, water vapor is the natural—and only—by-product of fuel cell technology. The CR-V e:FCEV can, however, run on hydrogen that is created by electrolyzing water using renewable electricity.
Hydrogen is the lightest and most abundant element in the universe. While it is found everywhere in nature, there are also many sustainable ways to produce hydrogen for refueling fuel cell vehicles. Methods range from electrolysis of water using renewable power to the reforming of biogas, a renewable resource.
Your Honda dealer will help you set up the easy-to-use HondaLink®* app with features that will locate all the approved hydrogen fueling stations and can map your route to the nearest or most convenient one. You may also refer to the California Fuel Cell Partnership website to find active and upcoming hydrogen fueling stations.
Fueling your CR-V e:FCEV is as simple as fueling a traditional gasoline-powered car and can be done in 3 to 5 minutes. Your CR-V e:FCEV dealer can provide simple instructions for refueling, and most hydrogen dispensers also provide on-screen training prompts to guide you through the fueling process.
Recharging the Honda CR-V e:FCEV is convenient, with the ability to add up to 29 miles of battery-powered range for short trips driving around town, in just two-and-a-half hours using a Level 2 charger.*
With home charging, you can power up overnight while you sleep, never missing a beat.
And with expanded HondaLink® capabilities, you can access hydrogen station information in addition to charging and power supply data right from your phone.
Many steps are taken from the hydrogen station to the vehicle design to help ensure safety performance, including hydrogen sensors, adherence to safety standards, and electronic shutoff valves.
Hydrogen itself is lighter than air and disperses quickly into the atmosphere; when handled responsibly and with proper care, it is no more dangerous than other common vehicle fuels.
Honda’s experience with hydrogen electric vehicles spans over 20 years since the introduction of the 2003 Honda FCX, the world’s first zero-emission fuel cell EV (FCEV) to receive certification for everyday use from both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). That’s over 20 years of improving safety technologies, to engineer a fuel cell electric vehicle you can drive confidently.
The new CR-V e:FCEV comes standard with the same cutting-edge safety technologies as the CR-V, including our Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies.
