Her name is Sophie.
I didn't set out to pile on the miles like this. It just kind of happened.
We travel all over the nation during the summer. I'm a photographer, as well as a field researcher for a mapping company. I couldn't do it without her.
She's survived several Lake Tahoe winters without a scratch. No small miracle there!
My parents are always a little surprised to see this same car pull up in their driveway. In their opinion, it's long enough to Phoenix or Denver in a brand-new car.. let alone Miss Sophie.
She's also survived central San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and New York City. I try to make up for those trying moments with long drives in the country: US-101 through the Redwood Empire and US-395 along the eastern Sierras are two of our favorites.
We've blasted French rock along Boulevard Pie-IX in Montreal. We've tackled Jackson Hole, Vail, Aspen, Snowbird and countless other ski resorts. We've visited Graceland and the site of Woodstock. We've even found the most authentic Cajun food and music in Eunice and other corners of Louisiana.
Everywhere I’ve ever wanted to go, she’s taken me.
300,000: Yuma, Ariz. (June 2010)
333,333: Mono Lake, Calif. (April 2011)
400,000: Lake Tahoe, Calif. (any day now)
It is with her help that I've explored the USA and Canada, to an extent that I could scarcely have dreamed of. She is a constant and faithful companion, crafted by geniuses and maintained by experts.
Thank you for a great car and a great story to go with it.
